How I rate moviesMy thoughts about what "average" means:
5 points are the middle of the 10 points scale. But in terms of quality rating, I think that 50% of perfect is average. It's not like school were 60% or less is failing. But I do think that the average production coming out of Hollywood and similar is a failure. The most movies that I watch get 5 points, so this is the average rating for me, but it doesn't mean that the movie is average -actually these are just time consuming movies. I watch all kinds of movies either because I paid money or it is all that is available. I have to admit that movies that I may have walked out on a few movies that I didn't like and gave a 1. But those are very few.
There are reasons for my ratings that may not be obvious. Some movies were ground-breaking when I first saw them. Movies like The Sting, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kids, Jaws, Exorcist, The Star Wars and the Indiana Jones series were amazing in their time. There were other movies that were so bad they were funny, like Attack of the Killer Tomatoes & Johnny English were "entertaining" like that.
My ratings:
10 - Perfection, I leave with a spring in my step, Joy in my soul, love in my heart and intellectual stimulation in my mind.
9 - Superb
8 - Very good/exciting
7 - good/entertaining
6 - above average
5 - average, a way to waste some time
4 - below average, quite boring
3 - extremely boring
2 - trash movie
1 - Had trouble stomaching, only gave a 1 BECAUSE THERE WAS NO ZERO.

(A review of McMillan & Wife)McMillan & Wife was an entertaining part of a Mystery Movie Series that included Columbo, McCloud, Banacek, and Quincy, ME. Later and lesser known additions to the series included: Amy Prentiss, Cool Million, Faraday & Company, Hec Ramsey, Lanigan's Rabbi, Madigan, McCoy, The Snoop Sisters and Tenafly. McMillan & Wife was one of the most popular shows, at least while it was McMillan & WIFE. Because it was one of a series there were only 6 or 7 episodes each year. Three episodes into the the 6th season Sally was killed in a plane crash and left the series. After that the shows was called McMillan but were usually listed as part of the McMillan & Wife programing. About that time Mildred, played by Nancy Walker, quit. After Susan Saint James, Sally, and her seductive voice left the show it was only about 1/3 as good. McMillan playing a chick magnet and Martha Raye replacing Nancy Walker just did not cut it.
